The Wilde Rack Buddy is a waxed canvas bag that fits your favorite rack.

You may remember that in December 2021 we covered Jeff Frane’s emerging bike brand, Wilde Bicycle Company… if you can’t remember, you can check it out here.

Well, it looks like they’ve added a new USA-made waxed canvas bag to their accessories catalog that looks really nice, functional, and is priced right at $90!

Waxed canvas bags are pretty awesome…they are kind of my jam. Also if I can share a bit they are a bit of an addiction. So when I saw the press on this new bag from Wilde, affectionately called the rack buddy, naturally, it jumped out at me. It is available in two oilcloth colors, Whiskey and Charcoal.

The fabric is oilcloth (did I mention it’s oilcloth?) 7 oz sailcloth, made in the USA. This type of fabric is water resistant, very robust and generally, instead of wearing out, it becomes more beautiful with age and use. Wilde says the bags are sewn in their south Minneapolis neighborhood by local bag maker, James of Beard Bags.

The bag also has D-rings for attaching a shoulder strap (which doesn’t appear to be included…and I couldn’t find it on their website), as well as an external velcro pocket.

One of the highlights of this bag seems to be the ability to quickly remove and install the bag from bike to bike, the four strategically placed velcro straps make this easy.

And if you’re like me and you love #ridebikesbringstuff this is a key feature. Bag size is 6″ x 9.5″ at base and 18.5″ high when unrolled.

The folks at Wilde can confirm that the bag fits Surly 8-pack and 24-pack racks, Wald baskets and the “old Velo Orange flat top rack on Jeff’s townie”. They promise that this compatibility list will grow as more people try the bag.

As mentioned, the bag is $90, offered in Whiskey or Charcoal, and available now at Savage.
