ST. GEORGE- A motorcycle was destroyed, but the home in Scenic, Arizona was spared when the owner saw smoke billowing from the engine and pushed the motorcycle into the street on Saturday.
Shortly after 3 p.m. MDT, fire crews were dispatched to a reported vehicular fire at a residence in Scenic involving a 2011 Can-Am Spyder, three-wheeled motorcycle, which was burning in front of the home, Beaver Dam Littlefield Fire Capt. Ernesto Renteria told St. George News.
Firefighters arrived to find that most of the fire had already been extinguished, then set to work to completely extinguish the residual flames and smoldering burns to prevent re-ignition.
The Spyder was completely destroyed except for the charred handlebars, a wheel and a blue hubcap which were the only recognizable features remaining on the motorcycle.
At the time of the fire, the motorcycle was parked in the garage and when the owner approached the vehicle, he felt heat on his leg that seemed to come from the engine. Soon after, the engine area began to smoke, which was when the owner pushed the motorcycle out of the garage and away from the house.
As soon as he did, Renteria said, the bike caught fire.
The owner called 911 as he began to douse the flames with a garden hose until firefighters arrived.
The house was undamaged while the Spyder was destroyed in the fire and no injuries were reported.
Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire and Ambulance and the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded and took care of the scene.
