Heybike Ranger, folding electric bike at a great price [Video]
Heybike, maker of big and small e-bikes, has set a new standard for a feature-rich electric folding bike. With so many ways to enjoy e-bikes, the Ranger model can make short work of any commute, off-road shortcut or otherwise hectic day.
In the past, we looked at the Heybike Mars, another folding bike, but with a different direction. The Mars is a more affordable, e-bike that removes the price excuse for new riders.
For the extra cash, the Ranger is definitely worth a look, as you get a host of upgrades, added in the appendix below.

With bikes, it’s hard to balance several key uses, but the Ranger manages to hit the sweet spot in several categories. The Ranger does a decent job of adventure, business, utility, and comfort. In great middle ground, neither of these uses are in total conflict, and the bike can blend seamlessly between the two.
Heybike Ranger Comfort
Almost everything about the Ranger is designed with comfort in mind. There are so many comfort points on this bike that we have to dive into: comfortable grips, relaxed riding position, big tires, comfort saddle, suspension fork and suspension seat post. All of these parts fit together without any additional work on the part of the rider. In a passive sense, they all work to keep the rider on the bike longer, taking advantage of the large battery capacity.
Heybike Ranger Business
The Heybike Ranger has a maximum range of 48 miles on a single charge. With that kind of range, one could easily get around town, maybe even downtown and back, with more expense for the spontaneous trip. If long trips aren’t about cars, the throttle can be used to zoom over the horizon at the maximum speed allowed for an e-bike.
The Ranger has a surprising 330lb payload, which means the heavy-duty rear rack can really earn a living. Staying dry with full fenders is a breeze, and integrated front and rear lights keep visibility high. The 500W motor can do a short job on the hills, and the included brake lights can also go down the hill safely.
Heybike Ranger mechanics
Downhill, the Ranger includes 180mm mechanical disc brakes, with an engine cut-off signal built into the levers. This device will automatically cut power to the motor, making stops much more predictable and protected against unwanted acceleration. The bike is powered by a set of 7-speed Shimano gears, with a Toruney derailleur and a rust-resistant chain.
Heybike Ranger frame
After all these specs and uses, it’s hard to believe the bike can still bend. Buckling the frame in half, telescoping the stem, pinching the pedals and collapsing the handlebars give the Ranger a smaller cube shape that can easily fit into a variety of spaces. Packed up and ready for most adventures, the Heybike Ranger is ready to rock.
Heybike Ranger Price
For $1,399, there’s a lot of value in this little folding bike. My favorite part of the bike is the solid wheels, which never need adjusting and can handle a large total payload. This makes the bike very sturdy all around and puts the weight down for a very fun riding experience. Other bikes, like the Heybike Explore, offer more mission-specific steering, but for an all-around rig where you set the rules, the Ranger is a great option.
