Author plans to give away new children’s book Ellery’s Magic Bicycle for free on ‘World Bike Day’

But Ellery‘s magic bike is also a reworking of a story I wrote years ago as part of a high school assignment,” she explained. “When I handed in the assignment, I had no idea that the next day my English teacher would give a copy to all my classmates and in class would hold up their copy and say, “Now this that’s how you write a story!’ I was unsure of my fledgling creative writing skills, and my teacher‘His statement was a welcome boost to my confidence.”

Monte said that this unexpected praise and support from her teacher, classmates and parents helped her become the writer she is today.

“The story that I‘d written for my high school assignment had a dark ending similar to The tree that gives. Years later, I wanted to rework my homework into a picture book. It was also a chance to rectify this sad ending. I wanted Ellery‘s magic bike be as sincere as The tree that gives but with a life-affirming finish,” she said.
