According to the report, the driver was heading east on the carriageway in the right lane under the William Powell Bridge as Vera and Reyes were also heading east on the green bike path.
The driver realized he had to continue over the bridge and veered to his left in order to continue east, but was focused on his left exterior mirror as he crossed the bike path, hitting Vera and Reyes , according to the report.
Both cyclists were pronounced dead at the scene. Reyes leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter and Vera leaves behind two teenage sons.
The report noted that alcohol and drug use was not suspected.
Police said the driver was not arrested but received multiple citations.
“It’s still under investigation, but it’s most likely something that is negligence rather than anything alcohol-related or anything to that effect,” he said. said Miami Police Officer Michael Vega.
